Unzipped - Your how-to-wear-it guide to the new All-American look in 7 easy pieces or less. Cover Instant Update All American for her.

What to pack:

Just in time for Memorial Day, Fourth of July Fireworks and beyond... kick off summer with a sporty blend of red, white and blue that embraces fashion world’s growing obsession with soft, comfortable dressing. Start with easy jeans and a few lightweight tanks. We love the fresh versatility of white racer-backs and we simply can’t get enough embroidered indigos. The running-around-town staple of the summer? A pair of little red flats (we like to think of them as our little red convertible). And for dashing out the door and into the sunshine it’s all about a slouchy suede bag and a printed cap.

Who to see:

The Hollywood Bowl to start the summer with Pharrell Williams and Bruno Mars on May 31 and June 1, not to mention KCRW’s ongoing World Music Series and the weekend fireworks that light up LA’s night skies. Don’t forget your picnic blanket!

All American for him. All American for him.

What to pack:

The new summer blues capitalize on deep indigos, worn-in denim and military-inspired graphics. Keep accessories simple and rustic. A rugged leather belt is key. If there’s one critical update it’s a streamlined sneaker. We’re huge fans of Seavees’ California-influenced collection, with details like vintage washed linen and a silhouette that reflects the first-ever official skateboard competition, held in 1963 in Hermosa Beach.

Where to go:

Dodger’s Stadium for a long, lazy Sunday in the sun followed by dinner at nearby Philippe’s, an LA landmark that claims to have originated the French Dip sandwich, a title protested by another one of our favorites, Downtown LA’s turn-of-the-century classic, Cole’s.
