Bitter and sweet. Sweet and bitter. LeGuernec tapped into the Gemini-like duality of red currant, a fruit he associates with his childhood and with forgotten delights, to create a sparkling sense of desire for the almost unattainable.
This particular citrus evokes the seaside splendor of Los Angeles, where orange groves beckon from hillsides along shorelines. LeGuernec points out that there’s a very nostalgic tie with the aroma of American sunscreen lotion, a subconscious nod to long afternoons spent lazing in the sun.
- Perfumer Laurent LeGuernec
For Le Guernec, every fragrance is like a story: it has a beginning, a middle and an end. Following his literary theory, Lucky Darling’s running theme is peony, a bloom that unfurls in spring, with a green grassy headiness that LeGuernec finds both ultra-fresh and slightly intoxicating.
A member of the spice family, ginger represents the freshness of youth and packs a zingy punch that LeGuernec associates with lime. Its essential oil has long been prized among homeopaths for its anti-inflammatory benefits and by aromatherapists for its warm, invigorating qualities.
