Be Free Stories Night

We believe that being loved makes us truly Lucky. We began by celebrating love of all different kinds with our special capsule collection, in honor of the LGBTQ+ community, but it didn’t end there. As a kick-off to Los Angeles Pride, we hosted a night of storytelling and community in collaboration with The Giving Keys and Be Free.
Hosted at The Giving Keys HQ, the alley next to the shop transformed into a pop-up experience. Guests enjoyed cocktails, snacks, and a little shopping from Lucky Brand and The Giving Keys. As the sun set, the stories began.

People from the LGBTQ+ community took turns sharing their unique stories. From coming out to navigating relationships to eventually finding freedom, each speaker brought a different perspective. Those voices are exactly what Brian Terada, founder of Be Free, wanted the stories nights to be about.
“We celebrated a group of people who have overcome great injustices by giving them an opportunity for their stories in a way that was meaningful, commemorative, and liberating. People in the LGBTQ+ community have stories that need to be heard, so they can know that they are seen, loved, and free to be who they are. This, in turn, brings to light the value of our own stories and hearing the stories of others. Be Free believes that participating in this practice can bring about more freedom for us all.”

In addition to the storytelling, guests were able to shop The Giving Keys’ special Pride collection, as well as customize their own key on site. Made at their downtown LA headquarters, The Giving Keys’ mission is to end homelessness, a cause that ties in directly with the LGBTQ+ community. That direct connection, while heartbreaking, is one that made Be Free night and Pride that much more meaningful, as explained by Michelle Stevenson, COO/CMO of The Giving Keys.

“At The Giving Keys, our mission is to end homelessness through employment and as coming out can be a trigger for homelessness, supporting the LGBTQ community is close to our hearts.  We were thrilled to partner with Lucky Brand and Be Free on this event and to welcome everyone into the safe space of our Arts District HQ and celebrate the inspiring journeys so many of our guests have taken.”
Though the stories varied from person to person, Stevenson summarized the night best: “The overall feeling of love was undeniable.”
