For #MyLuckyHoliday, we’ve teamed up with some of our favorite influencers to talk all things merry and bright: what makes the holidays so special and their personal picks from our gift guide. Read on to hear more from blogger, Parker York Smith.
How are you spending the holidays this year?
I’ll be spending the holidays this year with my wife (it’s our first holiday as a married couple!) and our two dogs. We like to stay in LA because most of the city leaves and it’s actually really peaceful.
What do you love most about this season?
The best part about this season is the joyfulness in the air. Also, I love coming up with clever gift ideas for my loved ones that I know they’ll truly appreciate.
Do you have any personal holiday traditions?
No traditions other than getting a tree and enjoying the company of family.
Any tips for avoiding stress?
Start thinking about gift ideas and things you’d like to get done as early as possible. Don’t put it off or you’re just going to get stressed by the crowds and lack of time.
Do you have a favorite dish that you look forward to preparing and or enjoying?
My wife makes all kinds of amazing homemade baked goods. Cookies, cakes, pies, you name it. Also, her mac and cheese!
Tell us about one of your fondest holiday memories?
I think I was about 10 years old. My grandpa got me a new video game and after I opened it, he asked me to help him clean up. I said that I couldn’t because I was playing my new game. My mom overheard me pulled me aside and sternly taught me that being gracious and helping out a family member was much more important than playing my new game. It’s one of those pivotal moments for me that I think about a lot because it was such a positive message. My mom did such an amazing job of teaching me that receiving a gift is a privilege, not a right.
Let’s talk music! What’s your go-to album of choice and why?
*NSYNC - Christmas album all day and all night!
Describe your holiday décor style.
It’s pretty classic. Lots of greens, reds, and browns. We don’t go too crazy with the decorations but we always have a great big tree that is the centerpiece of our celebration.
Tell us something about 2018 that made you feel lucky?
I got to marry the love of my life. She said yes! We’ve been together for awhile but making it official this year was really special. To be in the presence of friends and family and also get to marry my person was the luckiest thing that could happen to me.
Any new year resolutions for 2019?
I try to avoid resolutions so as to avoid the disappointment when I inevitably break them. The goal is always positive momentum in every aspect of my life, so I’ll just be sticking with that!
